Some Personal Information about Us

We were both widowed in 1997.  Rose's husband died in August of heart disease, and Larry's wife died in November after a two and a half year battle with Bone Marrow Cancer.  Rose had been married for 15 years and had no children.  Larry had been married for 25 years and had 3 daughters, 2 living at home.

Feeling the despair of losing our life partners, we both sought help through grief support groups, and found a group called Griefnet on the Internet.  We joined this group, establishing relationships with other widowed people, sharing grief, sorrow, stories, and healing.

During this period of grief, we became interested in some of the similarities of our lives.  This led us to establish a pen-pal relationship for many months, sharing life stories and our personal grief as well as healing.  At the time, Larry lived in New Jersey and Rose lived in Montana.

Sparks were felt by both of us, and after many emails, and phone calls (over $500 worth EACH during one month!) we decided to meet to see if the sparks were real.  Dating was impractical due to distance, so we decided to spend a month together, half each in our respective locales.  Rose flew to NJ, her first time east of Wisconsin, and saw NYC and other sights.  After 2 weeks, we both flew West to Montana.

It was during the Montana portion of our meeting that we both knew the sparks were real, and during a hike down Avalanche Mountain in Glacier National Park, Larry proposed and asked Rose to come to NJ and marry him.  Rose said yes, and moved to NJ 2 months later when Larry flew back to Montana, packed a truck with Rose's belongings (including 2 dogs and a cat) and they drove cross-country for 6 days.

On the way we visited Mount Rushmore and Devil's Tower, WY (the flat topped mountain made famous in Close Encounters).  As if we had not talked enough in the past months, we shared even more during this wonderful trip, and feel we know more about each other than most people who have been together far longer.

We have shared stories of our late spouses, our lives since childhood, and our grief.  We have supported each other through the tough times of grief (anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays seem the most difficult), and have come a long way in our healing.  We are best friends, and have mutual interest in seeing that our quest for a better life means we must be involved in making things happen if we want to see a favorable outcome.

In August of 2004, after deciding it was getting too congested and too expensive to stay in NJ, we made a dramatic change by moving to Montana.  We are building our retirement home in the Flathead Valley, in the NW part of the state and a little less than two hour south of the Canadian Border.

Shortly after arriving in Montana, Larry began to do Process Serving as a favor for a local Private Investigation firm.  When that firm decided to divest themselves of their process serving business, Larry and Rose established LARC Enterprises, LLC.

We also enjoy many of the outdoor activities that Montana has to offer including hiking, kayaking, sightseeing, and antique hunting.  We are also the proud grandparents of 2 grandchildren (via Larry's daughters), one in New Jersey and one in Colorado.  In the future, we expect to do more traveling throughout Montana and other areas in the U.S. as well as our dream trips to Hawaii and Europe.
